Onion Rings (eggless)
3 Medium – Large sized onions
Panko bread crumbs
For the batter
1 cup flour
5 tbsp cornflour
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp paprika powder
1/2 tsp baking powder
(Tip- do not add salt to this batter sprinkle after frying to retain the crisp texture).
Ice cold water
Slice the onions into 1cm rings, pat dry & set aside.
Make a thick batter by whisking the above ingredients adding ice cold water, a little by little making sure there are no lumps.
(Tip – do not make the batter thin else it won’t stick onto the onions)
Dip your rings into the batter using a fork, let the excess drip off. Immediately coat with the Panko bread crumbs. Repeat the same for all.
Chill the onion rings in the freezer for an hour before frying.
Fry the rings until golden brown, drain on a paper towel, sprinkle salt and transfer onto a cooling rack.
